Cal Water Completes Palm Mutual Acquisition in Bakersfield
California Water Service has finalized its purchase of Palm Mutual Water Company, folding the utility into its Bakersfield District operations.
California Water Service officially completed its acquisition of Palm Mutual Water Company on July 1, 2026, absorbing the smaller utility's assets into its existing Bakersfield District — marking the end of a purchase process that began more than a year earlier.
Cal Water first announced the deal in May 2025, and the transaction required sign-off from the California Public Utilities Commission before it could close. With that regulatory approval secured, the San Jose-based utility moved forward with the full transfer of Palm Mutual's water system assets.

Customers previously served by Palm Mutual will now receive water service directly through Cal Water's Bakersfield District. Cal Water is one of the largest investor-owned water utilities in the United States, and acquisitions like this one extend its footprint in the Central Valley.
